“I love all aspects of dentistry but working with anxious patients is particularly rewarding. Their fear of visiting the dentist often means they are unhappy with their teeth. I help to put them at ease, building trust with a calm, relaxed and caring approach. Rebuilding their confidence often results in them becoming regular attenders. And I find it most rewarding to see them happy with their beautiful new smile.”

Born

Lanarkshire, Scotland

Training

Lyndsey studied at the prestigious University of Glasgow, which is well known for training caring, friendly dentists.

During her studies she won many notable prizes and after graduating she was one of only a handful of dentists to be chosen to stay on to work in Glasgow Dental Hospital. She worked in restorative dentistry (building up broken teeth with fillings and porcelain crowns) and oral surgery (removing wisdom teeth and more complex extractions).

After graduating, Lyndsey undertook further training in implants and cosmetic dentistry, becoming a mentee of one of the few Accredited Members of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She enjoyed improving patients’ smiles with tooth whitening, tooth coloured fillings and porcelain veneers.

Career

Beginning her career as a house officer, Lyndsey ultimately settled on working in NHS and private general practices because of the long-term relationships this allows her to form with her patients and their families.

She also spent four years working in private practice in New Zealand, where their progressive approach to dentistry provided plentiful training opportunities.

Special interests

  • Smile design (improving patient’s smiles to restore the health, function and appearance of their teeth)
  • Dental implants (a long-lasting, discreet solution for replacing missing teeth)
  • Anxious patients

After hours

When she’s not caring for her patients, Lyndsey enjoys running and mountain biking with her husband and son. She is a leader at Melrose Cubs where she organises camping and fun outdoor activities for a growing section.
