Gentle preventive dentistry

The Gentle Touch dental practice based in Kelso, Scottish Borders.

We are a friendly, modern and professional dentist in the Scottish Borders. Our fantastic team consists of five highly trained dentists, an implant practitioner, a facial aesthetics practitioner, three dental therapists and a dental hygienist. We are fortunate to be supported by an outstanding dental nurse and treatments team.

All of us at The Gentle Touch are firm believers in a preventive approach to your dental care. By preventing problems in your mouth before they arise, you’ll benefit from healthier teeth and gums. It will also mean gentler dental treatment for you over the years.

Services

As well as the essentials you’d expect from your dentist, we offer cosmetic dental services and advanced treatments. These include teeth whitening and teeth straightening. We also offer dental implants for patients looking for solutions for missing teeth. Emergency dental appointments are available daily for members and non-members (when space allows). Finally, we run a facial aesthetics clinic – Gentle Aesthetics – appointments and consultations are available.

What our patients have to say about us...

Wow what excellent service. I am used to an NHS dentist where getting an emergency appointment involves a wait of up to 8 weeks or requires daily calls in the hope of picking up on a cancellation. I called Gentle Touch at 8:30 am, I was the Dentist chair by 10:00 the same day and had finished my treatment by 10:30. What a contrast. Thank you so much Gentle touch.

JB

This was my first visit to The Gentle Touch. I was made to feel so at ease and safe that I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending the Practice. I never thought I’d actually look forward to going to the Dentist but the experience was so positive and unlike any surgery I’ve ever been to before. I’m more than happy to return.

In the olden days it was a scale and polish, now it’s Airflow..... It’s just like power washing your teeth with warm water and air. It’s completely painless!!! I believe it has given me cleaner teeth without the little niggles the cold water can give during the scaling process.

I am a huge fan of the Airflow hygiene treatment at the Gentle Touch. The dental therapists are always amazing - gentle but incredibly effective, leaving me with beautifully clean teeth.

I also recently had repairs made to a chipped tooth as well as a filling - both by dentist Amber Aplin. It was quite a long procedure but I honestly could have fallen asleep as I felt so relaxed in the chair! And the result is excellent. Thank you to all the team at the Gentle Touch.

RK

Initially, I was very nervous about the prospect of having implants to restore the gaps caused by previous extractions.  However, I felt better with the support received by Amber in tandem with the support from Vermilion. My mouth feels so much better now and all my teeth feel stronger with the support of the implants.

Being able to have follow-up appointments and treatment in Kelso will also save me the trips up to Edinburgh (see our news page for further information). I feel I have been very well supported throughout the process by Amber and her team at the Kelso dental practice.  They have a friendly and professional approach which put me at ease throughout my treatment.”

Ciara Sutherland is, quite simply, a top-class dentist. She combines true expertise with a 'gentle touch' and a comforting, reassuring manner. I cannot commend her highly enough!!

TC

Made an appointment at The Gentle Touch to have an airflow treatment to clean my teeth before my wedding. I was nervous beforehand but the staff were very welcoming, friendly and professional and talked me through each step. Not only that, the hygienist even picked up on a possible small hole in one of my teeth that my regular NHS dentist has not noticed during my check ups. Highly recommended, the level of care is brilliant.

C

I recently had two excellent sessions at The Gentle Touch, one of which being an emergency appointment after experiencing horrendous toothache. The practice staff were exceptionally welcoming of me as a new patient and immediately helped me to alleviate my anxieties. The whole experience was superb, so much so I’m actually looking forward to future appointments.

Philosophy

Our practice mission statement is to provide preventive and holistic dentistry in a patient-centred, gentle and caring way.

We pride ourselves in making our patients feel at ease. From the moment you walk into the practice and meet our welcoming reception team, to when meeting any of our friendly clinicians. We want to make your visit gentle and relaxing; many patients comment that their visit was a pleasure!

Our vision is that every member of the Gentle Touch enjoys optimal oral health and wellbeing.

New Patient?

If you are looking for a new dentist in the Scottish Borders, or a one-off treatment, please contact us. We are currently accepting new patients for general dentistry as well as cosmetic dentistry. Emergency dentistry appointments are available fo patients who are not currently members of our practice.

As a complimentary service and on a no-obligation basis, you can arrange an ‘introductory appointment’ with one of our Smile Advisors, Beth McNeil and Ashley Swailes.  They will listen to your queries, concerns and aspirations in a non-clinical environment, then talk you through how we can help.

Memberships

We firmly believe in a preventive approach to dental care. Looking after your teeth with regular check-ups, hygiene treatments and monitoring can negate the need for expensive treatments down the line. That’s why most of our adult patients are registered with one of our membership plans.
