What can I expect from a Dental Nurse position at the Gentle Touch?
We aim to give dental nurses the ideal working environment. You can expect friendly colleagues, nice patients, modern facilities and equipment, varied work, excellent hours, lots of benefits, and a safe and caring culture. There is plenty of opportunity for personal and professional development. The practice is in a stunning building in the heart of Kelso, surrounded by a great selection of cafes!
Our practice is fully private and we are really lucky to have incredible patients who are lovely to work with. They are very loyal – over half of our patients have been members of the practice for 10+ years.
One of the main benefits of a fully private practice is that we’re able to allow more time for appointments than NHS practices. This means our patients never feel rushed, and our dental teams are able to work to a very high standard at a sensible pace. Our team tell us that this really helps with job satisfaction and enjoyment.
As well as meeting all the dental needs of our members, we also offer one-off treatments for non-members including for emergency work (when diaries allow), cosmetic dentistry, dental therapy, Dental MOTs (our new patient “ultimate check-up”).
Our practice includes a team of three brilliant Dental Therapists. They carry out the full scope of their dental therapy practice as well as hygiene treatments and kids’ dentistry.
Does the practice have up-to-date décor and modern equipment?
Our practice building is stunning – it’s part of the historic Corn Exchange in Kelso. Our surgeries and public areas are modern and welcoming by design. We have fully renovated our building over the past 4 years, ensuring that the clinic space is a light and airy place to work. This included new clinics, staff rooms, and office space, as well as a renovated reception and waiting room.
We also invest strongly in equipment, with recent investment in AI note-taking. Some of our dental nurses run regular scanning clinics with our 3D scanners (iTero and Medit). It’s also becoming more routine to generate 3D scans of our patients’ mouths during check-ups. We use an AI x-ray communication tool and an intra-oral camera to show our patients clear pictures of any issues. We love that we can now display these results on a big screen in each clinic. Almost all of our hygiene treatments make use of Guided Biofilm Therapy using EMS Airflow.
What quality of life does the Scottish Borders offer for a Dental Nurse?
The role as a Dental Nurse at the Gentle Touch dental practice allows you to work in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland. We are located in the pretty, historic market town of Kelso in the Scottish Borders. The town lies on the banks of the River Tweed with the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland to the south, the Berwickshire coastline to the east and Edinburgh just an hour to the north.
Kelso has lovely independent cafes, restaurants and shops as well as a regular farmer’s market. Nearby towns of Melrose, St Boswells, Jedburgh, Berwick-upon-Tweed are similarly picturesque. The local housing market is relatively affordable for renters and homeowners, especially when compared to Scotland’s central belt and main cities.
Working here as a dental nurse gives you the chance to have a superb quality of life – whether you choose to live locally or commute from further away.
