“I feel incredibly fortunate to have a career that doesn’t feel like work. I love getting to know people, looking after their best interests, and all aspects of dentistry. I am passionate about saving teeth – including those that the NHS cannot save – and hope to offer this to as many people as possible.
I have recently found an additional interest: developing the practice facilities and services to improve how we care for our patients. We’ve invested in creating two additional surgeries and the latest equipment. This has improved our patients’ experience, while helping us to attract top clinicians and support staff.
As a result, I feel very privileged to work with a fantastic team who all want the same thing – to give our patients the best service and care possible.”
Born
Sydney, Australia
Training
Amber initially qualified at the very highly-regarded Newcastle University dental school, before undertaking specialist training in restorative dentistry at the University of Edinburgh. It was this second dental diploma which sparked her particular interests in minimally-invasive restorative dentistry and root canal treatments.
Like all the dentists at The Gentle Touch, Amber is passionate about learning. She favours a biomimetic approach to everything related to ‘bonding’ and has trained with the world’s founders of these up-to-the-minute techniques.
Career
Amber joined the Army in her penultimate year at university and went on to serve as an Army dentist for sixteen years. This took her all over the world, living and working in Germany, Northern Ireland, and Canada and instilling in her a strong ethic of ongoing professional development.
In 2012, Amber left the Army to work in a private practice in Duns before joining The Gentle Touch a year later. In 2017 she jumped at the opportunity to buy the practice and has enjoyed developing and growing it ever since.
Special interests
- Biomimetic dentistry (optimal bonding of white fillings and onlays and saving badlydamaged teeth)
- Minimally invasive dentistry (conserving tooth structure to minimize the need for future root treatment)
- Root canal treatments
- Smile design (improving the appearance of old or failing front crowns, for example)
After hours
When Amber is not at The Gentle Touch, you’ll find her at home with her husband Matthew, their three children, and their many animals, including horses, two Maltese dogs and some outdoor cats.
