Join Us: Private Associate (3 or 4 days)

Tue, 12th Dec 2023

We are currently looking for a Private Associate to join our team of excellent dentists. This position is for 3 or 4 days a week with a start date of March 2024.

If you are interested, please email your CV to Amber Aplin, Principal Dentist via amber@gentletouch.dental. Amber is also very happy to have an informal chat in the first instance and to show any interested dentists around our practice.

What can I expect from a Private Associate position at the Gentle Touch?

Our philosophy is for dentists to have the ideal working environment: full diaries of nice patients who want to invest in their teeth, fantastic front-of-house & treatment support team (no staff shortages), full-time TCO-led new patient journeys and a base of loyal, longstanding private patients.

Our patients are almost all members of the practice and, of those, over half have been members for 10+ years. A large list of loyal private patients will transfer to you. There is also the opportunity to treat non-members on a one-off basis, including for emergency work (when diaries allow), cosmetic dentistry and ad hoc dental health assessments.

All hygiene treatments are carried out by our team of three brilliant therapists – most appointments include Guided Biofilm Therapy using EMS Airflow. The therapists also take care of all the kids’ dentistry.

Each of our dentist surgeries has a new A-dec dental unit with speed-increasing handpieces and all the usual mod cons. Our newest investment has been a Medit scanner which complements our iTero scanner. We make almost exclusive use of Vision dental lab, headed up by award-winning Wayne Flack. As Vision is based in Kelso, our lab work is collected and dropped off daily.

The surgeries and public areas of the practice have also been invested in heavily in recent years with a full renovation and expansion.

Who would be suited to this role?

This position will suit someone who enjoys practicing dentistry with predictable and long-term outcomes without time or target pressure. Whilst being part of a caring and empathetic team, you will also enjoy working independently.

We take a preventive approach to dentistry and a suitable candidate will share this ethos. Applicants should be highly skilled in a range of evidence-based treatments which aim to prolong the life of teeth. Our dentists engage strongly in ongoing professional development in the preventive dentistry field. It would be a bonus if applicants have an interest in biomimetic principles.

You may also have an interest in delivering cosmetic treatments particularly where they have a preventive purpose. We currently offer specialist treatments including Invisalign, teeth whitening, implants (visiting dentist) and facial aesthetics.

The role offers a fulfilling and rewarding private dental career, working as part of a highly professional team who work extremely well together.

Are your clinic facilities of a high standard?

We invest continually in our practice in Kelso. Our most recent full refurbishment of the practice was completed in early 2023 including new clinics, staff room and office space as well as a renovated reception and waiting room. We aim to ensure that the clinic space is a light and airy place to work. We also invest strongly in equipment, with our most recent additions including Invisalign 3D scanners (iTero and Medit). We have been using EMS Airflow for all hygiene appointments for several years.

What quality of life does the Scottish Borders offer?

The Gentle Touch dental practice is located in the beautiful market town of Kelso in the Scottish Borders. This historic town lies on the banks of the River Tweed with the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland to the south, the Berwickshire coastline to the east and Edinburgh just an hour to the north. Kelso has lovely independent cafes, restaurants and shops as well as a regular farmer’s market. Nearby towns of Melrose, St Boswells, Jedburgh, Berwick-upon-Tweed are similarly picturesque. The local housing market offers some incredible options in both town and country. In short, working here as a private associate gives you the chance for a superb quality of life – whether you choose to live locally or commute from further afield.
