A gentle revolution in dental care – the first fully biomimetic practice in the UK

Wed, 2nd Jul 2025

We’re proud to share something very special about The Gentle Touch – we are the first fully biomimetic practice in the UK. We are currently the only dental practice in the UK where every single clinician – dentists and dental therapists – is trained to provide biomimetic restorations. This approach is at the heart of how we care for our patients, and it’s making a real difference to their dental health and overall experience. We want to explain more about what this means for you as a patient and how this revolutionary approach could transform your dental care.

Understanding biomimetic dentistry

Biomimetic dentistry means restoring teeth in a way that truly mimics how they function in nature. When we bite down, our teeth naturally flex and bulge ever so slightly. But when a tooth has had a large filling, especially an older amalgam or a poorly bonded white filling, it can no longer flex properly. Over time, tiny cracks begin to form as the tooth is stressed with every bite.

This explains why a tooth sometimes breaks when eating something soft – the truth is that it’s been slowly cracking over time and one day, without warning, it breaks!

The biomimetic solution

That’s where biomimetic restorations come in. We can identify these high-risk teeth early and rebuild them in a way that reinforces their natural strength. By bonding the materials so precisely and mimicking the tooth’s original structure, we’re able to create restorations that can last for decades.

We no longer rely on traditional dentistry methods such as crowns or quickly-done fillings. Traditional crowns require excessive drilling and removal of healthy tooth structure, while our biomimetic approach conserves as much of your natural tooth as possible.

Life-changing benefits for our patients

The bonding is so effective that it significantly reduces the risk of a tooth having sensitivity following treatment or ever needing a root canal. The benefits include:

Our commitment to excellence

This is why we take our time, use high magnification, and invest in optimal materials and specialist equipment. The Gentle Touch is the UK’s first fully biomimetic practice, with all our dentists having completed masterships in biomimetics and all of our dental therapists are trained in-house by Amber Aplin.

Even if you’re not currently our patient, we’re happy to offer second opinions on whether a tooth can be saved. If another dentist has recommended extraction, biomimetic dentistry might offer you an alternative.

When you choose The Gentle Touch, you’re choosing a practice dedicated to preserving your natural smile using nature’s own design principles.
