Overview:

Comprehensive introduction to biomimetic dentistry, focusing on foundational principles, science, & essential techniques.

  • Content – 12 + hours of verifiable CPD (inc. lessons, hands-on and live observations).

  • Outcome – Begin practicing direct biomimetic dentistry immediately.
Course Objectives

To equip delegates with advanced skills in performing long-lasting composite restorations, focusing on the principles of biomimetic dentistry to enhance clinical outcomes.

To provide hands-on training in rubber dam techniques, photography and composite material selection, and the correct application of these materials for optimal function and aesthetics.

To empower dental therapists with the knowledge to deliver therapist-led care, allowing them to manage composite restorations independently and confidently.

To provide valuable shadowing opportunities where delegates can observe real-time composite restoration procedures and therapist-led care, learning from experienced practitioners.

Additional Details

The shadowing period in the schedule allows delegates to see first-hand how the skills and techniques discussed throughout the course are implemented in a live, clinical environment. Participants will observe Gentle Touch therapists in their treatment of patients using therapist-led care, learning how to manage their time, approach clinical decision-making, and interact with patients. This practical experience will reinforce the course’s teachings and give delegates the confidence to implement these techniques within their own practices.

Course Schedule:

Day 1 – Sunday 7th September 2025

09:30 – 10:00: Introduction to Biomimetic Dentistry
– Overview of biomimetic principles in restorative dentistry.
– Understanding the importance of longevity and aesthetics in composite restorations.

10:00 – 11:30: Rubber Dam Techniques and Foundation Skills
– Hands-on demonstration of correct rubber dam application.
– The role of isolation in achieving predictable results.

11:30 – 12:30: Photography for Success
– The importance of photographic documentation for patient records and marketing.
– Hands-on practice with dental photography equipment.

12:30 – 13:30: Lunch and Networking

13:30 – 15:00: Hands-On Session: Cavity preparation techniques
– Participants will use caries dye, and existing cracks to determine the cavity shape
– Cavity considerations

15:00 – 15:30: Coffee Break

15:30 – 17:00: Biomimetic Composite Techniques
– Immediate dentine seal and resin coat to create the optimal bond
– Composite materials and layering techniques

17:00: Qs and As before close of day 1

19:00 onwards: Dinner and informal networking at a local restaurant

Shadowing Gentle Touch therapists for practical insights and guidance during the restoration process.

– Revise the protocols of direct (stress-reduced) composite restorations
– Use of Ribbond
– Management of deep cavities
– Enamel replacement

11:00 – 12:30: Shadowing Therapists in Action: Therapist-Led Care in Practice.
– Delegates will observe Gentle Touch therapists treating patients using therapist-led care in real-life settings.
– Participants will be able to see how composite restorations are applied in a busy practice, focusing on workflow, patient management, and efficiency.
